about

"Whatever" is a song. It is based on a bass line I had been intending to do for sometime now. I have actually used this sort of bass dropping bass line before in a number of unpublished tracks. I was just about to set off on this project...when "Back Down to Earth" was born. Yah, I got distracted. But...that happens sometimes. Sometimes you find another gem on the way to unearth one you can see already sticking out a bit.

This bass line was the one already sticking out a bit. The "whatever" aspect of it was somehow playing in my head from time to time as well. On occasion I thought it would go well with this project...and it does!

The other lyrics of these tracks...occurred to me...I think...before I sat down to carve this song out, but, either way...they occurred to me while in the midst of producing it. Of course, "I don't know and I don't care!" go quite naturally with the "whatever" theme. ^_^

The music theory behind these tracks is ridiculously simple - the entire piece exists in a C major harmony. There are, in fact, no other harmonies present in this piece...just C major...and mostly only in a couple octaves at that.

Not sure I can take simplicity much further than this before it challenges even my minimalist aesthetics...but time will tell. That said, I completely love these songs.
